Wilted Lettuce

Look we turned it into a real, written "recipe." Grandpa Helf used to sop his bread in the bowl to get the remaining dressing.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb. bacon, diced
  • 1/4 cup oil (bacon grease)
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar, or to taste
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 head lettuce, torn
  • Croutons

Directions

  1. Brown diced bacon. Remove bacon to paper towels. Drain, reserving drippings to a measuring cup. Add oil to make 1/4 cup.
  2. Heat with vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Pour hot dressing over lettuce. Add croutons and bacon.
  4. Serve immediately.
