Stuffing
& Sausage Stuffing
Mom's version of Gramma 'Rene's stuffing. Plus a sausage version which Mom had us fooled every year thinking was a totally different stuffing.
Ingredients
- 16 slices bread
- 1 cup water
- 2/3 cup onion, diced
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 eggs (optional)
- 3 tsp. Bell's seasoning salt, or to taste
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- Double dash of pepper
Sausage Stuffing
Directions
- Lay bread on a cookie sheet in a warm oven until dried. Soak each piece of dry bread in a bowl of water, wring it out and tear it up.
- Saute onions and celery in butter until tender. Combine with bread in a large bowl.
- Add eggs and seasonings and mix with a fork.
- I think the secret is to combine everything together, and let it sit in the refrigerator overnight.
- Stuff in turkey or chicken (both ends) before roasting.
Sausage Stuffing - *This is usually the "out of the bird" stuffing.*
- Add pork sausage and mix with the above recipe.
- Cover and bake at 350° for approximately 1 hour.
