Stuffing

& Sausage Stuffing
Mom's version of Gramma 'Rene's stuffing. Plus a sausage version which Mom had us fooled every year thinking was a totally different stuffing.

Ingredients

  • 16 slices bread
  • 1 cup water
  • 2/3 cup onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 eggs (optional)
  • 3 tsp. Bell's seasoning salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • Double dash of pepper

Sausage Stuffing

  • 1/2 lb. pork sausage

Directions

  1. Lay bread on a cookie sheet in a warm oven until dried. Soak each piece of dry bread in a bowl of water, wring it out and tear it up.
  2. Saute onions and celery in butter until tender. Combine with bread in a large bowl.
  3. Add eggs and seasonings and mix with a fork.
  4. I think the secret is to combine everything together, and let it sit in the refrigerator overnight.
  5. Stuff in turkey or chicken (both ends) before roasting.

Sausage Stuffing - *This is usually the "out of the bird" stuffing.*

  1. Add pork sausage and mix with the above recipe.
  2. Cover and bake at 350° for approximately 1 hour.
