Apple Pie

The traditional Thanksgiving apple pie with the crust on top.

Ingredients

  • 5 to 7 tart apples
  • 3/4 to 1 cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 recipe Plain Pastry
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • *If apples aren't tart, add 1 Tbsp. lemon juice.
  • **Grated lemon peel may also be added, if desired.

Directions

  1. Pare apples and slice thin
  2. Mix sugar flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg and add to apples.
  3. Fill 9" pastry-lined pie pan. Dot with butter and add top crust.
  4. Bake at 450° for 10 minutes, then at 350° for 40 minutes.
