Apple Pie
The traditional Thanksgiving apple pie with the crust on top.
Ingredients
- 5 to 7 tart apples
- 3/4 to 1 cup sugar
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 recipe Plain Pastry
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- *If apples aren't tart, add 1 Tbsp. lemon juice.
- **Grated lemon peel may also be added, if desired.
Directions
- Pare apples and slice thin
- Mix sugar flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg and add to apples.
- Fill 9" pastry-lined pie pan. Dot with butter and add top crust.
- Bake at 450° for 10 minutes, then at 350° for 40 minutes.
