Grandma 'Rene's Spaghetti Sauce
Grandma 'Rene didn't have a recipe for this and Mom's recipe was just a list of spices that were used. This recipe was created on the job and the amounts are purely approximate. Have fun...you won't ruin it.
Ingredients
- Olive oil (Grandma used pork fat)
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup celery, chopped
- 1/2 cup green pepper, chopped
- 2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste
- 2 (28 oz.) cans whole tomatoes
- Sugar, to taste
- Bay leaf
- Marjoram
- Garlic powder
- Oregano
- Celery seed
- Pepper seed
- Salt and pepper
- Parsley
- *All spices to taste
Directions
- Cover the bottom of a pan with olive oil. Saute garlic, onion, celery, and green pepper until tender.
- Stir in tomato paste and whole tomatoes. Add sugar and spices.
- Cook, uncovered, for about an hour or until it taste the way you like it.
- Grandma would add uncooked meatballs and cook both sauce and meatballs until the meatballs were done.
