Snickerdoodles

A home economics class favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup soft shortening
  • 1-1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2-3/4 cup flour
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Topping

  • 3 tsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon

Directions

  1. Thoroughly mix shortening, sugar, and eggs.
  2. Sift together and stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Chill dough.
  3. Mix sugar and cinnamon for topping. Roll dough into balls the size of walnuts and then roll in topping mixture.
  4. Place dough about 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  5. Bake at 400° for 8-10 minutes until lightly brown but still soft.
