Chocolate Pretzel Cookies

Don't make these by yourself. It's a long and lonely road and much more fun with sisters, friends or cousins. You can also show up at the Warner homestead on the second Saturday in December and just watch. You can try your hand at shaping the pretzels, but be warned, we are not afraid to vote people off of the island. Right Wendy?

Mocha Glaze

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp. light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp. Crisco shortening
  • 1 cup confectioner's sugar

  2. Combine flour and salt and add to creamed mixture. Mix well.
  3. Cover and chill for 1 hour.
  4. Divide dough into fourths. Form each portion into an 8" log. Divide each log into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into a 10" rope.
  5. Place ropes on a greased baking sheet and form into pretzel shapes 2" apart.
  6. Bake at 400° for 5-7 minutes or until firm.
  7. Cool 1 minute before removing to wire racks.

Mocha Glaze

  1. Heat chocolate chips, white chocolate, corn syrup, and shortening in a saucepan over low heat until melted.
  2. Stir in sugar and enough coffee to make a smooth glaze.
  3. Dip pretzels. Place on waxed paper to harden.
  4. Drizzle with white chocolate. Let stand until chocolate is set.
