Strawberry Stuffed French Toast

Vicki got up early one Mother's Day to make this and serve it before Ellen got out of bed. She crash-landed on the bed just as the alarm rang.

Ingredients

  • 12 slices cinnamon bread, divided
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 9 eggs
  • 1 quart milk
  • 2 cups whipping cream
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4-1/4 tsp. vanilla
  • Warmed blackberry preserves (optional)
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Directions

  1. Line 13"x9"x2" greased pan with 6 slices buttered bread, butter side down. Place remaining 6 slices on top with butter side up.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat eggs, milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla. Mix well. Pour over bread and let stand for 15 minutes.
  3. Place dish in a larger dish and pour boiling water to a depth of one inch.
  4. Bake uncovered at 350° for 40 minutes or until knife placed in center comes out clean. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
