Apple Fritters
Not exactly Gramma Lu's recipe, but no one wrote that one down! Actually, during this project we discovered that Dick found the only copy of the recipe and we have adapted it to a new and improved version. (Although we haven't tested it yet, have we?)
Ingredients
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup flour
- 2/3 cup milk
- Dash of salt
- 4 large tart cooking apples
- Cooking oil
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
Directions
- Core, peel, and thinly slice apples and set aside. In a mixing bowl, stir together egg, flour, milk, and salt. Stir in apples.
- In a skillet that is at least 2 inches deep, heat 1 inch of cooking oil to 375°. Fry fritters in hot oil about 1-1/2 minutes per side or till golden brown, turning once.
- Drain on paper toweling. Sprinkle hot fritters with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Serve hot.
Makes 16 fritters.
