Merck's Coffee Cake
From Grandpa Helf, who got the recipe from Merck. But who the heck is Merck? Ginny and Bob are convinced that the first attempt at this recipe will burn, especially if you make fun of somebody else's.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3 eggs
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1 cup sour cream
Crumb Mixture
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 4 Tbsp. butter
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 cup nuts
Directions
- Cream butter and sugar. Add vanilla. Add eggs one at a time and beat until smooth.
- Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt together. Add to wet ingredients alternately with sour cream.
- Grease and flour a 10" tubular cake pan. Pour half of batter into pan. Sprinkle half of crumb mixture over batter and pour the remainder of batter into the pan. Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture over the top.
- Bake at 350° for 50 minutes. (Set the timer, stay home, and don't fall asleep, or it will burn and you'll have to start over again. Right Bob & Ginny?)
