Delayed Blast Fireball

Even non-D&D players might be able to tell that saying this one has a kick to it is a bit of an understatement. Our friend Mike recommends mixing it with vanilla bourbon and cola.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cups bourbon
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 5 cinnamon sticks, broken in half
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup hot water

Directions

  1. In a clean glass jar with a lid, combine bourbon, red pepper flakes, and cinnamon sticks. Screw on the lid, shake, and store in a cool, dark place to infuse for 5 days, shaking the jar at least once a day.
  2. In a bowl, whisk brown sugar and hot water to dissolve sugar fully and set aside to cool to room temperature, about 10 minutes.
  3. Line a fine-mesh strainer with cheesecloth, set over the bowl with the brown sugar mixture and strain bourbon into into it.
  4. Wash and dry the jar and return the mixture to it. Serve or store in a cool, dark place for up to 3 months.

Enjoy neat, over ice, mixed with cola, or as the foundation for a hot toddy with spiced chai.
